You are welcome to join us for prayer...

  • Them: Hey Pastor Rodriguez, I was calling to see if our group could join your church service tonight, the place we normally go on Wednesday nights isn't having service and we usually take are group(s) to a mid week service when they are in town.
  • Me: You guys are more than welcome to join us tonight. We start at 7p. We start with some worship and someone shares a quick exhortation and focus for prayer and we spend the rest of the night praying.
  • Them: Oh, so it sounds like its more of a prayer meeting than a church service.
  • Me: Yea, in Jan we decided to focus our mid week service on seeking the Lord.
  • Them: Well I can appreciate that! But I'm not sure that a prayer meeting would work for our group. Considering what they are here for. We would rather take them to an actual church service.
  • Me: Oh OK, well let me think of some other churches that might have a mid week service you can attend.
  • Them: You know what, we might just end up staying in tonight and playing games.
  • This is a sad reality of where this generation is headed. Leonard Ravenhill said, "Sunday morning service shows how popular the church is, Sunday night service shows how popular the preacher is, and Prayer Meetings show how popular God is."
  • For those that do want to pray, we'll be at Abundant Life - 1336 N. Damen, 7p-9p

I feel like I’ve just been sharply rebuked. Lord, receive glory through my shame. I am nothing without you! Teach me your ways O Lord. Take me into even greater levels of prayer and intimacy with you. Make a man defined by prayer!

hiphomiletics:

This is Paul Washer, a man whom I greatly admire and sincerely want to be like. I almost hate to even post this great message on my “blog”, but I’m doing it otherwise because I need to hear it and I know many others do too. Lord help me be heavenly minded and not get lost with things that are passing away.
